ie Stratton—Division E Member of the Month

Jamie Stratton from the IR Speaking Club is always willing to come
up with a speech at the last minute, if needed. He has been
President of our club and this year has stepped up again as VP
Education, which is a big job. Scheduling for the weekly meetings
and rounding up speakers is a tough job in a busy company
environment. In addition to that function, Jamie makes sure we
have a meeting space each week and moves the meeting to
another conference room, as appropriate, due to company
meetings, etc. which may fill the normal conference room we use.
Jamie is always supportive and encouraging of members and is excellent at providing feedback to help
our club members gain confidence in their speaking and organizational skills!

Other honored nominees for October were:

Gary Schmidt , Clackamas County Toastmasters—Gary was instrumental in creating two new
Toastmasters clubs to be available to Clackamas County staff. The Clackamas County Toastmaster and the
Clack-Orators Toastmasters have each been meeting for one month and Gary has been a great role model in
meeting roles and given both clubs confidence to lead.
Tom Cox, Toastmasters for Speaking Professonals—As VP of Education, Tom has gone above and
beyond the requirement of the position. He's planned meetings two months in advance, gathered Goal
sheets for each member of the club in order to support them in REACHING their goals, attended every
meeting, mentored at least two people that I know of....Tom has demonstrated a level of commitment and
standard of excellence that makes my job as President an effortless one.
Susan Bender Phelps, Toastmasters for Speaking Professionals—Mentored two new members on
the Icebreaker speeches.
Ann Snelling, Silver Tongues—Ann is quick to fill any roll that is needed. I am a new member, she
recruited me because I went to an event where she was a guest speaker. Her demeanor and amazing
delivery impressed me. I quickly can see that she is a natural leader, and gives skilled correction when

needed, but always starts out with the positive encouragement first. She is a winner all
the way around!
Kathleen Clark, Portland Progressives—Kathleen has taken on the role of
Mentorship Coordinator for the club. She not only is ensuring that our new club
members are assigned Mentors right away, but she is serving as a Mentor herself.
She has exemplified the model of a Mentor by taking the time outside of club to talk
with her Mentee to discuss how the member can meet their personal goals. Kathleen
fully committed to doing what she can to help other members of the club not only
meet their goals but thrive, and to help the entire club continue to be successful.
Chris Swanson, Lake Oswego Toastmasters—Chris Swanson is a leadership
hero! As President of the Lake Oswego Toastmasters, he is a genius at keeping
us engaged and striving to do our best throughout the year! Chris has
BRILLIANT speaking skills, humor skills, and creative writing skills!
Moreover, he has a heart of gold! We are SO LUCKY to have him as a
our leader!!
