Jim Robison—Division D Member of the Month
Congratulations to Jim Robison, Portland Club, for being selected
Division D’s Member of the Month. He is a member of the Portland
Club and Portland Progressives. He is well-known in District 7 as one
of the “reliance team. “ If there is a speech contest afoot, and Jim is
available, you can rely on him to be there with judges ballot and pen
in hand. Over the years Jim has held multiple club roles, helping his
clubs reach President’s Distinguished. His steady way of looking at
the world, his passion, and his ability to size up a situation and form
workable solutions quickly are what makes Jim a favorite around the
District. He earned his DTM in 2012. He is serving as the District Chief Judge for the 2014-15 year.
Other honored nominees for September were:
Joella Dethman, Gorge Windbags, is an exemplary Toastmaster who makes a point of really
explaining the functions and agenda of our meetings to guests and new members in a way that is
educational and not condescending. She is supportive of all members and gives great feedback and
encouragement. Joella is funny and kind. She serves two officer roles for our club. She takes action to
get guests to attend and provides gentle persuasion for them to become a club member. Joella is
changing personal plans to accommodate officer training so that our club gets the credit towards our
distinguished club checklist. I feel that she has really stepped up in these areas just recently and is a
terrific role model.
Bertrand Hui, Scan Eagles, is an outstanding member of the club. If someone needs help, Bertrand is
there to lend a hand. As a charter member of Scan Eagles, Bertrand has guided our club since the
beginning.
Brian Shelden, Chanticleers, deserves special attention. When the club moved from downtown to
the airport Port of Portland---we depended completely on Brian to locate a room for us for each
meeting at the terminal and then to move us into the 8th floor at the new Port of Portland building.
Even now he has to be Sgt-at-arms and secretary/treasurer in order to fulfill the security requirements
of the Port. Aside from all that, he has been a responsible leader in holding the club together, as we
started with 3 members and are now heading towards 18 members.
Daniel Reitman, Portland Club, was nominated by a club member because he is an outstanding
member of the club, always willing to lend a hand when needed.
Tom Knapp, Portland Club, is a constant. He gives thoughtful evaluations and is always there
to cheer on and support the other members. We really appreciate Tom, and are glad he is a
member of club #31, the oldest club in Portland.
Paris Guffey, Portland Club, is the VP Education for the club. She is a
fairly new member, having joined in September 2013. She is
always there when we need her, keeping us moving towards
President’s Distinguished.
King Ellis, ScanEagle Toast masters, King is the master
organizer for the ScanEagle Toastmaster club. King created the
meeting planner sheet, which is how the ScanEagle club
