t Is All the Fuss About Paying Dues?
A portion of dues paid to Toastmasters International come
back to Districts to run their programs. It pays for TLI,
marketing, trophies and awards, just to name a few. In order
to be a club in good standing, 8 members must have
renewed on or before April 1, 2015. The deadline for
receiving DCP credit for goal #10 is April 10, 2015.
As dues are collected they should be submitted to
Toastmasters International. Make it a game, offer a drawing
for those who submit their dues by a certain date. Don’t be on the receiving end of countless
email nags asking you to pay your dues. Please be proactive and help your club meet their
goals.
Patriot Talkers Holds Open House
Shamrocks, the showing of the green and leprechauns were
all part of Patriot Talkers Open House held on St. Patrick’s
Day to relaunch the club. Toastmaster for the evening was
Leanna Lindquist, DTM, Lt. Governor Marketing. Don Ferris,
DTM of Liberty Talkers led the group in Table Topics.
Attendees were treated to two of District 7’s own celebrities;
2004 World Champion Public Speaking Randy Harvey, DTM
and 2009-2010 Toastmasters International President Gary Schmidt, DTM.
Randy spoke about authenticity being the single most important component to public
speaking. One’s authenticity drives body language, vocabulary, and message. One’s own
story and message are always the best speech to deliver. He advocated Toastmasters as
being the place to practice and formulate your best message. Gary shared how to clarify
thoughts, prepare a message, and let your voice be heard. This works whether you want
to advocate in the political arena or simply be heard in your family. These strategies were
learned from a career in politics and membership in Toastmasters.
Patriot Talkers is a niche club that focuses on preparing conservatives and community
minded people to confidently deliver their message in a concise manner, whether it be
as a candidate or in a political forum. If you want the confidence to speak up at a School
Board Meeting or a session of the Legislature this club is for you. Patriot Talkers
president is Kay Bridges. The club meets every Tuesday from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at Standard
TV & Appliance, 5240 SE 82nd in Portland just north of Foster Road in the conference
room at the back of the store. Check out Patriot Talkers on Facebook.
