t forward to Winter term at Umpqua Community
College. She’s in a speech class and asked the
instructor to help her start a campus Toastmasters
Club.
She has to approach and get 100 signatures before
she can even think about asking students, and
others, if they’d like to be charter members of the
club.
This from a girl who was so shy that she couldn’t
approach someone, wouldn’t play with kids on the
playground, and would never make a phone call that
wasn’t answered by grandma.
Kayleen is a common visitor to the Roseburg
morning and evening Toastmaster Clubs and always
participates, wowing veteran members and newbies
alike with her public speaking acumen.
The moral of the story is… In Toastmasters, we share
about ourselves and we share our stories with
people who are safe. Never is a speaker made fun of,
never is a speaker put down or made to feel bad.
With reviews and evaluations that are fair, balanced
and kind, there is an automatic sense of feeling
validated.
Learning public speaking in such a supportive
environment will, without a doubt, change your life.
It will make you feel more confident!
And that’s Just the way it is!

Becky Holm joined Toastmasters in 2012 and is a
