Our club’s commitment to support each member’s growth was perhaps most evident when our fellow
member Thomas Lunsford competed in last year’s Humorous
Speech contest. We rallied behind him as he ascended from
the club onto the area then division and finally he won the
district competition with his hilarious speech titled, NO
SHAME! We continue to see the impact of Thomas winning
this memorable contest, as his personal confidence unfolds
and his role as a club leader becomes more solidified.

At Marylhurst Toastmasters we regularly have ‘meeting themes’ and frequently the room is decorated
appropriately to compliment the theme, thanks to Raynette Yoshida and her fabulous stash of party
supplies. Additionally, our meeting space includes an overhead projector and screen to give us the
hands on practice necessary to master our PowerPoint presentation skills. Furthermore, we have
ample opportunities to assemble the tables and chairs into various configurations to accommodate
the needs of our members and give them a venue space that is similar to wherever they may be
presenting. Our club is proud to open our doors to host our respective Area contests and we use the
patio on the backside of our clubhouse for our club’s end of the Toastmaster year potluck party in
June.

Each week everyone has the opportunity to practice conducting meetings by serving as Toastmaster,
General Evaluator, or Table Topic Master, to give impromptu speeches, present prepared material, and
offer and receive feedback. We organize our meetings based upon the outlined objectives provided
by Toastmasters International for all speech presentations and evaluations. We encourage our
members to commit to achieving educational goals and participating in district events. Best of all, we
