District 7 Spring Conference—
Leading Volunteers
Gloria Shishio, International Director, enjoys spending time with family
and friends at lunches or dinners “shooting the breeze”. She also enjoys
reading mystery and suspense fiction novels, and when opportunity
presents itself, watching major league baseball. Gloria shared recently
that she enjoys volunteering and making a difference for individuals. She
says, " There’s something about “working for free” and having someone tell you how
much you made a difference to them."
She originally joined Toastmasters to improve her public speaking because her job
required her to speak to managers. Gloria really wanted to improve her speaking. She
said that during her first ice breaker, she had so many ums and ahs, they stopped
counting!
Gloria will be sharing Leading Volunteers on May 2nd at Seven Feathers Casino, in
Canyonville Oregon. At the end of her presentation, the audience will gain an
understanding of how to plan for success, develop a team, and demonstrate
appreciation.
The Three C’s of Success
Tom Marcoux, author, coach, filmmaker, public speaker, enjoys listening to empowering
music (often movie soundtrack music since he composed some music for one of his feature
films) and he assembles jigsaw puzzles. He also enjoys getting together with a friend for a
walk and conversation. He is passionate about his personal misson: helping people
experience enthusiasm, love and wisdom to fulfill Big Dreams.
When asked about why he wrote his first book, Tom said, "One day, I strolled through the
halls of my alma mater Santa Clara University, and I had this intuitive feeling “I want to
teach!” Within five months, I had my first book done and I was a guest lecturer at DeAnza
College, California. My first book’s material now continues in a revised form in my 15th
Anniversary, 3rd Edition book Be Heard and Be Trusted. Each of my 26 books is a journey that
my intuition brought to my attention. Since I teach graduate students and college students
many weeks of the year, I’m always thinking about topics that can empower people to fulfill
their Big Dreams.
Tom shared this about developing a story idea, "Here’s an example: my team is completing
the first graphic novel of the series Jack AngelSword. My process begins with the character
and focusing on what he or she needs to learn.
