No

for job interviews. I guess he
      and others wore me down—plus,
I was feeling guilty for not not
      joining. I had been attending

      meetings for 26 months. One
      day Phyllis Harmon asked
      if she sponsored me would
I join. I finally said “yes.”

I only intended to join for
      one term, but Cleon keeps
      renewing my membership.
It has been a long journey, and I have

learned a lot. I really like our club, New
Horizons Toastmasters, and the people who are been easier to give one here and there instead
in the club. Everyone is very supportive. I found of waiting until the last minute and having to
that I didn’t die when I gave a speech. I see the do everything all at once. I didn’t realize I had

new members and how much they have grown to have this all completed by the end of June. I
since they first started. told her I would do it, so I am pushing myself
I want to thank Mary Canton. She really hard to complete it.
didn’t know what she was getting into when I wasn’t being stubborn when I wouldn’t

she became my mentor. She asked me a while join Toastmasters. I just didn’t have any desire
back if I would be interested in completing my to speak in front of people or write speeches.
Competent Communication and Competent I’ve come a long way from being nervous about
Leadership awards. She said it would be good speaking in front of people.

for the club and me. I never really got an answer to my question,
I waited too long. This is now my last speech “What is Toastmasters?” when I first asked. Now
and I will be done with my manuals. I wished when people ask me, I can tell them what it is.
I had given my speeches earlier. It would have “No, no—well, maybe.”
