business stealing chocolates. He had problems
hiring experienced workers such as a chocolate
dipper in 1923 where a position was advertised
for nine months. He failed to file a corporation
financial statement with state of Oregon in 1922.
Ben worked nine years rebuilding the business
before selling it in 1932.
Ben traveled throughout the state such as a
trip to Marshfield (Coos Bay, Oregon) for selling
candy products on July 17,1928.
Ben Medofsky became involved in civic
activities. For example, he contributed to the
Community Chest. Ben became involved in
the Zionist movement and was secretary of the
local Zionist Organization. During the mid
1920s, Ben traveled to China where he observed
the impoverished conditions the Chinese were
experiencing. He contributed $5.00 for relief
program for famine-stricken China April 4,
1929 to the Red Cross. Red Cross forwarded
relief funds to Henry Morgenthau, a New York
philanthropist, who managed the Chinese
Relief Organization. He wrote an article in the
Oregonian November 4, 1929 describing the
anti-Zionists outbreaks in Palestine.
