Toastmasters Takes to the Road
Buses bearing a message about Toastmasters have been on the road in
Klamath Falls, Medford, Ashland and surrounding areas since January
15, 2015. These ads will continue until April 15, 2015. For those who don’t know what
Toastmasters is, ads will encourage them to find out. For those who do know about the
program and the value it brings, ads can prompt people to take the next step—visit a
club.
The ultimate purpose of these transit ads is to bring new members to your clubs. In
some areas it could mean the beginning of a new club. Ultimately it’s about millions, yes
millions, of views of the Toastmasters brand and
message within the boundaries of District 7.
In March we will see transit ads in Eugene and
Vancouver. Due to different demographics and
ridership in Portland, we will advertise on MAX
trains. An advertisement with photos of our own
members will appear on the ceilings of 30 train
cars for 8 weeks. These ads are known as
Michelangelos. If you are in the Portland area and would like your headshot to appear in
our ad please email lgm@d7toastmasters. org.
It has been an interesting process learning the ins and outs of transit ads. For example,
did you know that buses in Salem and Bend do not allow transit ads? Contracts are
given to only one company in any given area. Ideas for the ads are submitted to the
company; a sample is created and then forwarded to Toastmasters International for
written approval. I welcome your feedback and photos of the ads.
Club Dues
It’s not too early to write your check and hand it to your club
treasurer. Clubs must submit dues for at least 8 members to
keep your club in good standing with Toastmasters
International. People pay hundreds to thousands of dollars
for workshops to help improve their leadership and
speaking skills. Your cost to Toastmasters International?
$1.38 per week. Your return on investment? Priceless.
