owcasing Success. . .

Robert Wilson, CC, ALB

Ever since its founding on March 31, 2004, Babble-On has
been dedicated to being the most diverse club possible,
welcoming individuals from all nationalities and cultures.
Several members have English as their second or third
language. One of the ESL members won the Humorous
Speech contest at the club and area levels, after being a member for only six months.

This emphasis on diversity has helped
the club create a warm and welcoming
environment. Members stay because
they feel that they belong.

The club uses the Distinguished Club
Program as a guide to evaluate both
members’ and the club’s progress. The
club’s founding President jokes that
they only reached the Select
Distinguished Club status their first
year because he had never heard of the Distinguished Club Program up to that point.
They now know that having trained officers is crucial to the club’s success.
Communication and Leadership are given equal weight in educational goals.
Members are encouraged to participate beyond the club level. Several members
have been active in area, division, and district leadership roles.
If there was one word to describe a Babble-On Toastmaster meeting it would be
“FUN.” One of the slogans is “Applause and Laughter Guaranteed.” This is proved
every Sunday at 4PM at the Presbyterian Church of Laurelhurst in Northeast Portland.
Babble-On is the only club in Portland to meet on Sunday, making it the first club to
meet each week. The District 7 calendar starts on Monday, this makes Babble-On the
last club to meet in Portland each week. Babble-On strives to be the Alpha and
Omega of Portland Toastmasters Clubs.

Robert Wilson joined Toastmasters in 2006. He is a member of Babble -On Toastmasters Club. Babble -
On meets Sundays, 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM at the Presbyterian Church of Laurelhurst, 935 NE 33rd Avenue,
