Leadership Opportunities

Toastmasters gives its members opportunities to practice leadership skills by serving as club and District officers.  There are also opportunities at the International Level.

Club Officers

Leading volunteers is an excellent way to improve you leadership skills.  Many of the skills you need to be a successful club leader are covered in the Competent Leader (CL) program.  If you are a club officer and have completed your Competent Toastmaster (CTM), the CL enhances leadership development.  All offices, except the Past President, can be used toward your CL.

President - The president leads the club, presides over club meetings and promotes excellence in the club.

VP Education - Plans dynamic club meetings, promotes the educational plan and assists club members with attaining their educational goals.

VP Membership - Builds club membership and satisfaction.

VP Public Relations - Manages public relations for the club, prepares publicity materials, writes club bulletin.

Secretary - Maintains accurate membership roster, records and reads meeting minutes, prepares reports, and orders supplies.

Treasurer - Prepares an annual budget for the club, collects dues and maintains financial records.

Sergeant-at-Arms - Arranges meeting room and equipment, greets guests and members, chairs social and reception committee.

Past President - Chairs the nominating committee, provides guidance and serves as a resource to the club.

District Officers, Committee Chairs & Special Opportunities

At the district level, there is opportunity to lead volunteers and other leaders.  The Advanced Leader (AL) involves leading leaders as a District officer, a High Performance Leadership project (HPL), and working with a new club or a club that's rebuilding.

The HLP involves choosing a goal and leading a team to successfully reach that goal.  You have a guidance committed that coaches you though the leadership process. 

Serving as a District officer gives you experience leading leaders.   

District Governor - The District Governor  leads the district, presides over district meetings and promotes excellence.

Lt. Gov. Education and Training - Plans dynamic district meetings, Promotes the educational plan and training of district and club officers.

Lt. Gov. Marketing - Responsible for promotion of the District and its clubs.

Public Relations Officer - Responsible for Public Relations for the District.

Secretary - Maintains accurate records and reads meeting minutes, prepares reports, and orders supplies.

Treasurer - Prepares an annual budget for the club, collects dues and maintains financial records.

Assistant Treasurer - Assists the Treasurer

Sergeant-At-Arms - Arranges meeting room and equipment, Greets guests and members, chairs social and reception committee.

Past District Governor - Chairs the nominating committee, provides guidance and serves as a resource to the district.

Committee Chairs - Many committee chairs assist the above officers in performing the work of the district.

Division Governor - Provides leadership to Area Governors and help for promoting area excellence, by working with several Area Governors.  Organizes Division level speech contests.

Area Governors - Provide leadership to several clubs and help for promoting club excellence, by working with several club presidents.  Area Governors organize area speech contests.

Club Sponsor - Help a new club organize and charter.

Club Mentor - Help a new club for its first six months.  Mentor the club so that it builds the background of educational excellence.

Club Coach - Help a club rebuild.  Work with a club with twelve or fewer members to become a distinguished club in the Distinguished Club Plan (DCP).
