Governor Kitzhaber Proclaims March as Toastmasters Month in Oregon                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Celebrations Being Held at Clubs Around the State

Salem, OR, March 1, 2014 – Governor John A. Kitzhaber, M.D. proclaimed March as Toastmasters Month in Oregon.

April of 1935 the first Toastmasters meeting was held when The Portland Club became the first club in Oregon and the 31st club for Toastmasters International. The Portland Club, often referred to as Club 31, is still going strong and will celebrate it’s 80th anniversary next year.

In issuing the proclamation, Governor Kitzhaber acknowledged the value of effective oral communication skills. These skills are essential in the workplace and community.

Clubs are comprised of a group of people with different backgrounds and experiences who meet regularly to practice and improve their speaking and leadership skills in a safe environment. Members gain the confidence and competence to transform their lives. We have only seconds to make a good first impression. Impromptu speaking opportunities provide practice and feedback to become confident in both business and social settings. It has often been said that “people fear public speaking more than death.” Toastmasters will help you over come that fear and become a better speaker and listener.  If you are seeking a new job, want to speak off the cuff confidently or just want to communicate more effectively with your children Toastmasters is for you.

Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Our membership is 292,000 strong. These members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 14,350 clubs in 122 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations.

Membership in Toastmasters is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself. At $36 every six months (club dues may vary), it is also one of the most cost-effective skill-building tools available anywhere. You will be warmly welcomed when you visit a club. To find a club near you visit toastmasters.org

(May add your club’s contact and meeting information here.)
