District 7, operational since 1940, is one of 86 Toastmaster districts worldwide. Geographically, it includes Oregon west of the Cascades to the coast, a small part of Southern Washington and Northern California. In Washington state District 7 includes the counties of: Klickitat, Skamania, Clark, Sahkiakum and Cowlits. In California District 7 includes the counties of: Del Norte and Modoc.
In the hierarchy set by Toastmasters International the club member is the most important person in the organization. Members form clubs with membership from of about 20 members per club. Beyond the local club there are Areas that are comprised of 3 to 6 clubs. Areas Governors have oversight over these clubs. Beyond the Area there are Divisions, made up of 3 to 5 Areas with a Division Governor having oversight of the Areas within the Division. A District is the sum of the divisions within its geographical boundaries. District 7 has 9 Divisions, 36 Areas, 169 clubs and over 2500 members.
Each district has its own governing body consisting of the District Governor, Lt. Governor of Education & Training and the Lt. Governor of Marketing known as the District Trio. Additional district officers include: Immediate Past District Governor, Secretary, Treasurer and Public Relations Officer, Division Governors and Area Governors. The mission of District 7 is to enhance the performance and extend the network of clubs and to offer more people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters Educational Program. To do this, the district will: • Focus on the four critical success factors outlined in the district’s educational and membership goals. • Insure that each club fulfills its responsibilities to its members. • Provide effective training and leadership development opportunities for club and district officers.
