Area 54 Speech and Evaluation Contest @ Columbia River Correctional Institution
Mar 26 @ 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM

A staffing emergency within the Oregon Department of Corrections has forced the postponement of the Area 54 speech contest. Contest staff are now working to reschedule the event to a tentative date of March 26. I will keep this event updated as we finalize the details.

The Columbia River Correctional Institution is a restricted access facility that requires every visitor to undergo a screening process to include a criminal background check. If you wish to participate in the contest and haven’t visited the prison before, you will be required to submit your drivers license number and date of birth to CRCI at least three weeks before the event. The prison also enforces a dress code that prohibits guests from wearing denim clothing (e.g., blue jeans) and requires guests to dress in a non-suggestive manner. More information on how to acquire permission to enter the CRCI will be provided as soon as I receive it.

Division B Speech Contests @ TBD (tentatively Anstett Hall Room 191, University of Oregon)
Apr 6 @ 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM

[Location TBD – I applied for the room before it was available. Cross your fingers!]

Come support your Area’s representatives! This might be the year the next World Champion of Public Speaking again comes from District 7 (we’ve had two: Ryan Avery and Randy Harvey. If your name begins with an R, you may have a very good chance!).

I am looking to get local news coverage at this event. It’s possible you may be asked to sign a waiver. I will make details available when appropriate.

The best parking is to the west behind Rennie’s Landing. You can find a useful map leading to parking here, but while we will be in the same building as where the UO club meets, we will not be in the same wing.
